Reflection on Web2.0 Tools

I have created this post to write my reflection about Web2.0 tools and rank the most useful and beneficial tools to the least usefulness tool.
Within MIS course, Web 2.0 project is the most helpful project that has helped me to understand different tools that are for a multiple purposes. I have prepared a training session and set a training plan, the points that I will be covering and how to start creating this tool in a given time. I am sure that the training session that I have trained my classmate was a helpful and can be used in their future career or business. The beneficial thing about this course is after all of the sessions we had, each student should apply those different tools in Google site to show how did we used them and what we have understand from each session.

Ranking ( most useful to the least useful tool ):

Google site:

My colleague Badreya and I had this training session together for web 2.0. At the beginning we thought that this was a boring topic compared to others. After few days we met in a coffee shop to search and read more about the topic where we have realized that it was an interesting tool. We have set a plan and requested a meeting with Mr. Tridib to check if we were on the right track. I really enjoyed when I was watching the videos to learn about this topic. I learned many things to do on it and what is the purpose of using it. In addition, using Google site can make it easy for us to build our own website for different purposes and can edit it anytime. Since now I know how to use Google site I will be recommending it for my sister because she just started her own business to promote and advertise her products.
You can check my Google site by clicking here.

Google Calendar:

I have used Google calendar to organize my meetings with my group members to work on our project, to accept the requested meeting that are sent by them, to schedule my appointments, to remind me with what task I have to do by using the task feature and when is the submission date of each project. In addition, I have added a mobile setup so it can remember me through SMS about the event that I have. I have added interesting things to my calendar using browse calendar about Muslim Holidays and copied it to my calendar. Finally, I really recommend for others to use this tool because it is a helpful tool that will organize your tasks and meeting and keep you in track.

Diigo:

Diigo is a social bookmaking website where I could highlight paragraphs and share it with others or bookmark it. I have used Diigo after the training session a lot for our group’s project; I have shared too many information with my group members. In addition, I have bookmarked the website and highlighted the information that I want and added some notes. The website was saved on the library on my Diigo account. Finally, I really liked this tool because it helped us a lot to share the information together by sending it through emails and it have saved my time by bookmarking the website.

Google drive/Dropbox:

After the training session, I have downloaded both Google drive/ Dropbox on my laptop and IPhone so that I can store my documents and photos on them. It is a very useful tool that I can access to my documents from anywhere at any time. Moreover, I have shared some documents with my group members by sending the link of the Dropbox. Finally, this tool have helped me to share documents by only sending the link and storing my photos so that I can lose them and access to them on my iPhone and laptop.

Google map:

Google map is a powerful tool that allows me to only type the country or city that I want a show me the place on the map. In addition, it gives me many options like if the road is on traffic or not, photos about the city, direction if I wanted to go from city to another with the kilometer and how many hours it will takes. I really like this helpful tool and I have downloaded it on my IPhone because I am using it a lot when I want to reach to a specific location and especially when I travel.  At last, I have used Google map to plan our family summer vacation by checking the cities and photos that are available.

Google chrome:

I have downloaded Google chrome and started to use it when my classmate asked us to download it for their training session. Moreover, I continued using it after their session where I founded that it is somehow like using my iPhone where I could download applications. In addition to that I haven’t faced any problem since using it instead of Internet Explorer. The option that I really liked about Google chrome is chrome web store where I have installed some of the applications like Instagram, Twitter, Games, and Business applications.

Blog:

Blog is a very interesting tool that allows me to write and share my moments with others by providing them with interesting information’s, eye-catching places and celebrations.  In addition, I liked blog because it is an open area where I can post any thing I want and add interesting gadget like my twitter account, YouTube, calendar and time. I am sure that I will be using Blog after college to share my moment s with my friends.

Google docs:

A Google doc is a great tool that allows me to create my documents and share it with others. In addition, it directly saves the documents to my Google drive where I can access to it on my Google drive application that is installed on my iPhone if needed and I have saved some photos related to the photo essay document that is already saved in my Google doc. I have shared some documents related to our project with my group members by providing their emails in the empty box. The most helpful and interesting this about Google Docs is that I can access it from any laptop by only providing my Gmail account.

Prezi:

Prezi is an interesting tool that allows us to present our presentations in a nice way like choosing a theme that is similar to my topic and the having consequent animations. I have downloaded Prezi on my laptop and used it for my teaching session and 3 other subjects to present the information, photos and videos related to the topic directly by YouTube by providing the link. I really like Prezi tool and for sure I will be using it in my future career.

Picasa:

Picasa is a nice tool that manages all the photos on my laptop in it and allows me to edit the photo like cropping, add text and adding some effects. In addition, I have downloaded Picasa after the training session and used it for my photo essay project to edit the pictures and two other projects , I haven’t used it lot since I have other applications that are installed on my IPhone that are much easier to be use than Picasa.

Google + :

Google +is a social networking tool that allows me to connect with my friends and classmates. I have created my Google + account after the training session, I have used it to connect with my classmates where we have chatted through hangout option to discuss about our projects and I have created an event to invite my friends by sending invitation to them. Although Google+ is a good tool to post and hangout option with friends but I don’t think I will be using it because I am using Instagram, blog and twitter.

Your Phone vs. Your Eye

A Chinese man who is 26 years old  was diagnosed with a  rare condition retinal detachment because he was using his phone a lot in dark room that could lead to blindness if he didn't get a direct treatment. In addition, the smartphones screen have LED brightness which increase the brain activity and this may cause insomnia.

Recommendation: Don't use your phone, note tablet and laptops before you sleep and especially in a dark room instead read a book.
